Plan on the other side
[box/camera] ¬ a peep-installation¬

Place of intervention ¬ Rue de Berne 22, Geneva
Exhibition ¬ Gerwald Rockenschaub and Patricia Nydegger at Planet22, Geneva - from March 16 to April 23, 2000

By modifying the usual dispositive of domestic surveillance of a building located in Geneva's redlight district, Patricia Nydegger has mutated the peephole lenses of about 25 studios in permanent cameras in order to focus on the links existing between architecture and voyeurism, public and private space.

Cross-refering to the camera obscura, the peep-show or the web-cam - where, in all cases, the spectacle takes place in a box - the installation [box/camera] invites the spectator who is visiting the house to perform the double-binded action of shooting and peeping, seeing nothing while being seen and experiment the vibrations of satisfaction and frustration.

Patricia Nydegger presents [box-camera] as being the first module of a context-influenced work-in-progress which subject et set will have the conditions and the places of the redlight district as background.
