Planet22 is a new intervention space in Geneva, founded by Solvej Dufour Andersen and Peter Stoffel, in fall 1999. The first exhibition is programmed for mid-March 2000.

Planet22 is a glass box situated above the entrance of a squatted building in the red-light district of Geneva (22, rue de Berne). The house is a former brothel, and was squatted in spring 1998, after having been empty for a couple of years. The street is the most animated street in Geneva, offering round-the-clock services such as night clubs, peep shows, kebab shops, prostitution, hotels, etc... The visitors of the street
go there for entertainment, to consume, to see.

Perched above a doorway, between the private space of a house and the public space of the street, Planet22 is thus situated on the blurred boundaries between private, semiprivate and public activity. The house, a former brothel where you could buy pleasures that are strictly connected to the private sphere in our society, has now
been intruded into, and taken over by a group of young people with different professions: architects, designers, artists, film-makers, etc...

For the most part, Planet22's spectators will be people in the street, clients, shop-vendors, the locals, and traffic jam victims.

Parallel to the interventions in the box, Planet22 offers copies of artists' publications, catalogues, and the like.

Patricia Nydegger and Gerald Rockenschaub will be our first participants. Sladjan Nedelik will follow in April, Rainer Ganahl in May, Mette Kit Jensen in June.
